Calgary’s 2025 Sinopec Dragon Boat Race & Festival Invites You for a Weekend of Free Admission, Free Parking, and Family-Friendly Fun
Calgary, AB – July 5th, 2025 – The Sinopec Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival is back this summer — and everyone is invited to experience two incredible days of racing, culture, and community celebration on August 9 & 10, 2025, at North Glenmore Park.
Organized by the Calgary Dragon Boat Society, its 33rd year, this exciting event draws over 1,800 paddlers, 60+ teams, and thousands of spectators each year. With free admission, free parking at Mount Royal University (Lot A & B), and a free shuttle to the festival grounds, it’s one of Calgary’s most welcoming and accessible summer festivals for families and visitors of all ages.
Throughout the weekend, guests can enjoy high-speed dragon boat races on the Glenmore Reservoir, explore the lively Dragon Marketplace featuring 50 local vendors, sample dishes from 15+ food trucks, and relax in the Family-Friendly Beer Gardens with live DJ entertainment. Kids will love the Trico Homes Kid’s Zone, filled with fun and interactive activities.
“This festival is all about community and connection,” says Danny Ng, Co-Chair of the Calgary Dragon Boat Society. “Thanks to the support of our sponsors, volunteers, and community, the event remains completely free to attend — and there’s something for everyone to enjoy, both on and off the water.”
Saturday highlights include the emotional and inspiring Breast Cancer Survivor Race and Pink Flower Ceremony, a moment of strength, remembrance, and unity. On Sunday, the Dragon Boat Charity Race will raise awareness and funds for this year’s featured charity: Youth Centres of Calgary (YCC), an organization dedicated to creating safe, inclusive spaces and opportunities for youth in underserved communities.
Rooted in over 2,000 years of Chinese tradition, dragon boat racing celebrates teamwork, resilience, and cultural heritage — and the Sinopec Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival brings it all to life in a modern, inclusive, and family-focused atmosphere.

The festival runs on community spirit — and volunteers make it possible. The Society is calling for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to join the team behind the scenes. From dock management and timing to greeting guests and helping in the Trico Kids Zone, every helping hand counts — and volunteers enjoy great perks, including free lunch, a volunteer T-shirt, and even a chance to paddle!
