What a race. What a weekend. And what an incredible group of people.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who stepped into a dragon boat and took part in the 2026 Sinopec Dragon Boat Charity Race at the Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival.
This race is always one of the most special parts of our weekend because it brings together people from across Calgary — community leaders, businesses, government representatives, volunteers, partners, friends and first-time paddlers — all getting into the same boats and paddling together for a common cause.
This year, we were especially proud to race in support of Calgary Meals on Wheels and the important work they do for Calgarians every day.

But there was another very special moment on the water this year.
🐉 CALGARY DRAGON BOAT HISTORY WAS MADE.
For the first time in the 34-year history of dragon boat racing in Calgary, a current Mayor of Calgary and a former Mayor of Calgary paddled together in the same dragon boat.
Mayor Jeromy Farkas and former Mayor Al Duerr joined the Government and Media Team, paddling side-by-side with other community and public representatives — and together they raced to a second-place finish in 1:04.30.
It was a unique moment that captured exactly what the Charity Race is about: putting titles and backgrounds aside, getting into the same boat, working together and pulling in the same direction.
And really, that is the spirit of dragon boating.
The Charity Race has never been just about who crosses the finish line first. It is about bringing people together, trying something different, having a little friendly competition and using the sport of dragon boating to support our community.
To every paddler, captain, steersperson, drummer, volunteer and supporter who helped make the Charity Race happen — thank you for getting in the boat with us.
And to Calgary Meals on Wheels, thank you for allowing us to paddle alongside you this year and help shine a spotlight on the important work you do in our community.
Six boats. One community. One cause. And a little Calgary history made along the way. ❤️
