TOPIC: Status of COVID-19 for Dragon Boating in Calgary

The Calgary Dragon Boat Society welcomes Dr.. Franco Rizzuti, B.Sc. MD, to the Town Hall Meeting. He is joining us to provide a status and insight for the Dragon Boat Community in Calgary.

Dr. Franco Rizzuti, B.Sc. MD
Public Health & Preventive Medicine Resident Physician, AHS

Dr. Rizzuti is a senior public health & preventive medicine resident physician at the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services- Calgary Zone and is Public Health Strategy & Medical Advisor with 19 to zero.

Franco is a native Calgarian and is a proud University of Calgary alumnus, holding a BSc in Cellular, Molecular & Microbial Biology and MD from the University of Calgary. He has also completed graduate studies in physician leadership, and his post-graduate training at the University of Calgary. Franco’s interest areas within Public Health are emergency & disaster planning, environmental public health and health system design.

Franco has been involved in various elements of the COVID-19 pandemic response including, a co-creator of the Alberta COVID-19 Exposure Response Team (ACERT), AHS’s rapidly mobilized contact tracing program, co-led for multiple large warehouse and meat plant outbreaks, and involvement in COVID-19 response planning for vulnerable populations.

Franco also has extension experience as a medical leader, having served as President of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS),  Provincial Association of Resident Physicians of Alberta (PARA), Graduate Student Association of the University of Calgary, and Chair of the Alberta Graduate Council.

He has also served on the boards of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), Alberta Medical Association (AMA), Canadian Resident Matching Services (CaRMS), Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC), and the Board of Governors of the University of Calgary. In his leisure time,

Franco enjoys kayaking, sport climbing, and spending time in the mountains with his partner and dog.
