Dragon Boat Camp – May 17-19, 2024

updated: April 22, 2024

Is your Club ready for the 2024 Dragon Boat Season?

Tom Arnold
Dragon Boat Canada

The Calgary Dragon Boat Society is very pleased to announce that we will be hosting another Advanced Paddling Clinic. Tom Arnold from Dragon Boat Canada, the Gorging Dragons and coach of the National Senior B team is returning as our guest coach again.

In 2023, Tom and Mallorie Nicholson lead our National Senior B Teams to 15 medals out of 16 races at the International Dragon Boat Federation Racing Championships in Pattaya, Thailand. Come join Tom as he brings his level of experience to the waters of the Glenmore this summer.

New this year, we are offering a Dragon Boat Canada Steering Accreditation Course. The purpose of the course is to ensure a steersperson has the skills required to confidently steer races.  Is it recommended that you have participated in the Calgary Dragon Boat Society Steering Clinic or similar course. Theoretical classroom session to take place Friday evening with water time application throughout the 2-day Dragon Boat Sessions.

Our “Coach The Coach” session is returning on Saturday evening for our local coaches to ask Tom for advice on training tips, techniques and drills for the upcoming season. Video review of your Team during Day 1 of the Dragon Boat Sessions are also scheduled.

Like in past years, our Dragon Boat Sessions are made up of 2 Groups, i.e. A and B, with only 2 boats per session. Each day, i.e., Saturday and Sunday, you are on the water in a morning and afternoon session. Each session is for about 2-hours.

Lunch is provided on both days from a local vendor.

We look forward to hosting this event and helping you raise the level of competitive paddling in both Calgary and Alberta as a whole.
