2026 Dragon Boat Try It Day

Curious about dragon boating? Join members of the Calgary Dragon Boat Society for our only Try-It Day of the 2026 season.

This introductory session gives new paddlers an opportunity to learn the basics of dragon boating and experience paddling with a crew on the Glenmore Reservoir. No previous dragon boat or paddling experience is required.

What to Expect

The session will include:

• Approximately 30 minutes of land-based instruction
• An introduction to paddling technique, crew timing and teamwork
• A review of safety procedures and what to do in an emergency
• Approximately 60 to 90 minutes of on-water paddling, weather and water conditions permitting
• Guidance from experienced members of the Calgary Dragon Boat Society

Dragon boats, paddles and personal flotation devices will be provided.

What to Bring

Participants should bring:

• Water/Weather-appropriate clothing
• Secure footwear that can get wet
• A complete change of clothing
• Sun protection, such as sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat

Please arrive prepared to get wet. The session takes place outdoors and may be adjusted or cancelled if weather or water conditions are unsafe.

Space is limited, and advance registration is required.
