Call for Volunteers
The Calgary Dragon Boat Society is looking for individuals or organizations who would like to be part of a premier water sport and festival, gain experience by volunteering to help with this year’s event.
We recognize and salute all volunteers who contribute to the festival as it would not be possible without the help of many volunteers like yourself who kindly donate their energy and time at the festival each year.
We are offering some great eating at our buffet tables…some great T-Shirts (dry-fits), and a chance to paddle in a Dragon Boat with your fellow volunteers.

Event information distribution – Wed July 31, 5:30pm
We need to take 1-2 hours to do a letter drop campaign in the Lakeview Community area. This letter reminds the “Lakeviewers” of the upcoming Festival and to inform them about increased traffic that may affect the community. Looking for 5-8 volunteers from 6pm to 8pm.
Set up Friday – Aug 9, 2pm-6pm
Before the Festival, we are looking for people to help with the set up. We are asking all the teams to get involved in this as well, there are signs to put up, chairs and tables to unfold. 4 hours max should do it…and if you can spare some time before the day’s activities…that is great! Need at least 6-10 people
Site Take Down Sunday – Aug 11 3pm-7pm
After the Festival, we are also looking for people to help with the take-down. We are asking all the teams to get involved in this as well, but there are signs to take down…chairs and tables to fold and stack up. 2-4 hours should do it…and if you can spare some time after the day’s activities…that is great! Please let me know directly here…thanks! Need at least 6-10 people.
Main Stage Coordinator – Aug 10-11
organize a VIPs, dignitaries, performers
10am-4pm need 1-2 people
Festival Information Tent and Registration – Aug 10-11
We need people to help us keep our volunteers organized, fed and fitted with a volunteer T-Shirt. You will work with other volunteers to help make the festival enjoyable for all, while enjoying the day outside and having fun. Your support and time is much appreciated. As well to guide the public to our vendors viewing area and answer or pass along general questions as needed.
Merchandise/Swag Tent – Aug 9,10,11
We require a couple of volunteers to work with our swag vendor, Pete Bremner.
They will be assisting him with running his retail store so the skill set will basically be retail operations.
• Two volunteers required
• Training will start @ 10:00 am on Friday
• Volunteers need to be available all 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Volunteer Photographers – Aug 9, 10, 11
We will need as many folks to capture all the moments as we can get! Need 10 photographers (all day)
Race Related Activities
Front End Organization – Aug 10-11, 7:30am-4pm
Helps the races run smoothly by ensuring that the PFDs and Paddles are organized. A great role if you want to be close to the action and cheer on the racers.
Dock Management – Aug 10-11, 8am-4pm
Most important task is keeping the races flowing smoothly and on time by wrangling boats and loading/unloading boats. Needed 11 people per shift and two shifts per day 7:30am-12:00pm or 12:30pm-4:00pm. “Reasonable level of fitness required”.
Results Runner – Aug 10-11, 9am-4pm
Running results from timing tower to Information Tent. One person per day.
