Sinopec Dragon Boat Charity Race

Starting in 2011, the CDBS created the Dragon Boat Charity Race to help raise awareness & funds for a selected organization from the community of Calgary.

Each year, +100 participants from all levels of government, business and community experience the spirit of Dragon Boating by paddling in race of 5 teams, while helping to raise awareness and funds for the Charity Race Recipient.

The Calgary Dragon Boat Society Board of Directors are pleased to announce that the Calgary Zoological Society is this year’s Dragon Boat Race Charity Recipients.

The Calgary Zoo’s mission is:

Take and inspire action to sustain wildlife and wild places. The Calgary Zoological Society is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading conservation organization. Founded in 1929, the Society is one of the oldest registered charities in Alberta and as an independent not-for-profit operates the Calgary Zoo, home to over 700 animals representing 130 species and employing over 350 full and part time staff in peak summer season.

Often cited by travelers as one of the best zoos in North America (Trip Advisor, Expedia, etc.), the Calgary Zoo hosted 1.32M visitors in 2016, the most visited zoo in Canada. Record attendance of 1.61M visitors is expected in 2018 with the arrival of the Giant Pandas.

Calgary Zoo’s strategy is to engage and inspire its visitors, members, community, representatives, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders to take action in support of conservation of wildlife and wild places.
