Thank you for your interest in participating in this year’s Dragon Boat Charity Race.  The Calgary Dragon Boat Society (CDBS) is pleased to announce that the Wood’s Homes is this year’s Dragon Boat Race Charity Recipients.

The Calgary Dragon Boat Society has created a festival for a family-fun environment with conservative estimates of +4000 people in attendance, comprising of paddlers, volunteers, spectators, sponsors, dignitaries, and organizers over the course of 3 days.

Sinopec, Calgary Dragon Boat Society and your Team Captain would like to INVITE YOU as our VIP Guest to paddle in the Charity Race.

This a fantastic opportunity for you to experience the sport of Dragon Boating and to help raise awareness and funds for a local charity organization, called Wood’s Homes


There are five teams in the Sinopec Dragon Boat Charity Race (200m) competing for “bragging rights” which consists of people of all walks in life, from Government, Charity Recipient Organization, Festival Volunteers, media to business & community leaders.


Your Schedule as a Paddler

Charity Race Practice – Friday, August 9th

5:00pm – Dragon Boat Training @ Calgary Canoe Club

All Charity Paddlers are encouraged to join practice (5:00pm sharp on August 9th), please arrive at least 15 mins prior to practice and meet with your Team Captain.  Parking (Friday only) will be available in the North Glenmore Park near the Canoe Club.

Calgary Dragon Boat Society volunteer Coaches and Steerspersons will be providing condensed lessons or tips at the practice and will assist during the Dragon Boat Charity Race. Let your team captain know if you can make!!!

6:30pm – Festival Kickoff & Paddler’s Welcome Party

All Charity Paddlers are welcome to attend the Welcome Party after the practice at Big Tent…

Charity Race Day – Sunday, Aug 11th

9:30am – WHERE to Park on Sunday? Mount Royal University Parking Lot A & B

FREE Festival Parking and Free Shuttle located at Mount Royal University Parking Lot A & B, as parking at North Glenmore Park is very limited and restricted in most areas.  Shuttle buses will run approximately every 10 mins to/from the Festival for FREE.  Click here to see location of FREE PARKING & SHUTTLE BUS INFORMATION

Tip: Arrive at Mount Royal University Parking Lot A & B at 9:30am to park your car.

10:00am – Register at the VIP / Information Tent

ALL CHARITY PADDLERS must check-in at 10:00am at the Information Tent located South of the Canoe Club.

Advisable to give yourself 30 mins extra time to arrive at the Festival site by 10:00am.

All paddlers are to meet at the VIP / Information Booth to check in with their team Captain.

11:00am – Race 40 – Dragon Boat Charity Race (200m) @ Docks

All teams must be in the marshalling tent at the docks by 10:30am and teams will start loading the dragon boats at 10:45am.

Getting Prepared for the Charity Race

BRING yourself, a change of clothes and get ready to get wet.  The Calgary Dragon Boat Society will supply life preservers, paddles and boats, so all you have to do is show up focus on paddling and have fun!!!


Charity Paddler Registration/ Waiver Form

Registration deadline, Friday, Aug 2nd @ 12:00pm

All paddlers must complete and submit the online Waiver by the deadline before paddling on water.

Important to know who your Team Captain is during the Registration/Waiver process.

We are asking all Charity Participants to consider a donation toward “Wood’s Homes”… In exchange for an unforgettable, thrilling and wet experience paddling in a dragon boat, racing across the Glenmore Reservoir for a good cause… All participants will also be treated to lunch during the Charity Race Awards Luncheon located in the Big Tent…
